Improvements over the original iPad Air included; Reduction of thickness to 7.5mm to 6.1mm, TouchID, Apple Pay, an upgraded rear 8MP camera, A8X chipset offering ~40% better performance and the addition of WiFi AC allowing for faster network speeds.
