Launched by Apple in 2020, the fourth-generation iPad Air brought a significant redesign and performance enhancements to the iPad Air lineup. It featured a new 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, was powered by the A14 Bionic chip, and shipped with the iOS 14.
The 2020 iPad Air adopted a sleek and modern design with slimmer bezels and no home button. Instead, it featured a Touch ID fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button located in the top right of the device, allowing for a larger screen-to-body ratio. The Liquid Retina display delivered vibrant colors and impressive detail improving the visual experience compared to earlier variants of the Retina displays.
Under the hood, the A14 Bionic chip with its 6-core CPU and 4-core GPU provided outstanding performance, making it suitable for a wide range of tasks, from gaming to professional productivity. The iPad Air 4 also supported the second-generation Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard and a rear 12MP camera capable of 4K video recording at up to 60fps as well as a 7MP FaceTime camera capable of 1080p 60fps video enhancing its versatility for creative work and typing.
It is the first iPad Air to feature USB-C and WiFi 6 (ax). At the time it was regarded as one of the best tablets ever made and for retaining Touch-ID in the height of the pandemic however drew criticism for being more expensive than earlier models.
It came in various finishes, including new colors, and offered both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular models with 64GB and 256GB versions. The fourth-generation iPad Air bridged the gap between the standard iPad and the more advanced iPad Pro, offering a compelling package of performance, design, and features for a diverse range of users.
